Mercy is actively working with the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD) and the Department of Public Health (DPH) – the operator of Laguna Honda Hospital, to determine the site plan and number of units in Phase I and II of the Senior Housing. Mercy is working with the design team to confirm the overall unit count and configuration to allow Mercy to apply for entitlements.

On June 2024, Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center received its re-certification from the Centers for Medi-Care and Medicaid Services (CMS). Mercy Housing, the San Francisco Department of Public Health, and the Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD) have relaunched the design and community outreach work. Community outreach and design work continue to be on pause until the hospital has been re-certified by the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Please check back at this web site in summer 2023 for updates.

In May 2022, Federal regulators cited violations at Laguna Honda Hospital for which the hospital lost certification for federal reimbursements and many residents needed to be relocated to other settings. Laguna Honda Hospital leadership is working to bring the hospital into compliance with regulators and has applied for re-certification. Mercy Housing and city leadership remain fully committed to the vision of the new senior housing development on campus but have paused further outreach and design until the future operations of the hospital are stabilized.
